Depression makes it hard to function, and can make life feel overwhelming and lonely....
It can be completely debilitating. It impacts families and can be devastating for people. Even people who appear to 'have it all' suffer, often because of pressure to be perfect. Depression doesn't have to be a life sentence, not when there are effective solutions available. Here are some of the reasons why people feel depressed.
Not Feeling Good Enough
Not feeling worthy enough or believing we are good enough affects so many people in the world today. People feel pressured and are made to think that they are not pretty enough, smart enough, or rich enough. Not feeling enough affects everyone, even those that appear 'have it all'.
Not following your passion or doing what you love
When you don't follow your heart's desire this can create depression, sadness, apathy and illness. A lot of depression is down to people not doing what they really want to be doing in their lives. It's never too late to do something about that.
Saying harsh, critical and hurtful words to yourself
When you say harsh and critical words to yourself this can keep you in a cycle of depression. If a friend spoke to you in the same way you would not want to keep company with them. Be mindful of the words you say to yourself and tone them down. So instead of saying to yourself "I am a stupid idiot" say something gentler like "that was just a silly mistake that anyone could make" Remember we are allowed to make a mistake, but you wouldn't beat someone else up for making a mistake, so stop beating yourself up and put that inner critic in the back seat!
Trying to control things
Depression can be experienced from not being able to control outcomes. You can't control outside events like weather, traffic or people, but you can control your thinking. Learning to think positive can help transform depression and understanding that there are events outside of our control for all of us that we need to let go of trying to control.
Our modern convenient lifestyle is making many people ill and depressed, with convenience food that is full of empty calories and lacking in nutrition. It is often hard to choose the healthy lifestyle due to hormones and stressors in the body, but with support you can begin to control what you put into your body by rewiring your choices with RTT.
Disconnection from people leads to depression. As humans we are naturally social beings, its programmed into us for the survival of our species. So pushing yourself to connect is important, even if its just small steps and begin to connect with people face-to-face. So many people today are lacking social connection because social media is such a big part of our world. The World Health Organisation states mental health is a social issue. We all need to create a world of more connection for our wellbeing.

The first step is to heal yourself.
Show compassion and kindness to yourself as you would to another.
Do what you love. Choose something that lights you up.
Spend time in nature to restore your soul.
Remember you have a choice. You can control your thoughts by taking a step.
Be mindful that external things and events are out of your control.
Your in control of what you put in your body. Choose healthy, nutritious foods.
Connect with others, talk to others that understand.
Find something joyful to do which lifts your spirits.
